Yeezy.com vanishes from the internet after Shopify breaches its contract with Kanye West
Kanye West announced his new creative venture with the launch of his Yeezy.com online store, but it didn’t last long. The website mysteriously disappeared from the internet soon after its launch, with Shopify terminating its services with the rapper amid a controversy over hate speech.
Shopify, a Canadian e-commerce company, stated that it had terminated its service after West’s recent comments that violated its policy. In a statement sent to Bloomberg, the company said:
“Shopify does not tolerate policy violations that jeopardize the safety of our merchants, employees, or anyone else within our ecosystem. We took immediate action following receipt of a report detailing racist and other offensive content posted by Kanye West,” the company said in a statement. “This decision was not made lightly, and is in line with our values as a company and the commitments we have made to our merchants, employees, and community.”
West had launched Yeezy.com on Tuesday as part of his ambitious plans to expand his Yeezy fashion brand. However, the website was quickly hit with a wave of criticism over a T-shirt that read “White Lives Matter,” sparking widespread outrage. Multiple celebrities and influencers spoke out against the shirt, including NBA star LeBron James, who posted a photo of the shirt with the caption “WTF.”
West’s representative did not immediately respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment. This comes after West announced that he was stepping away from politics, promising to focus on fashion, music, and family. However, his recent behavior suggests that he still has his finger in the political pie.
