Pacers score 162 points, demolish Wizards in one of the best offensive performances in recent NBA history
The Indiana Pacers scored a whopping 162 points in a dominating offensive performance against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, arguably the best offensive display the NBA has seen in years. The Pacers, who led by as many as 53 points, scored the most points in a game this season and the second-most in franchise history, behind only the 174 points they scored in a triple-overtime game in 1994. With this win, they improved their record to 16-17 on the season.
The Wizards, who came into this game with the worst defensive rating in the NBA, couldn’t find a way to slow down the Pacers and were constantly playing catch-up, having to expend plenty of energy throughout the game. Despite a strong effort from Bradley Beal, who scored 41 points, Washington dropped to 15-18 on the season.
For the Pacers, it was truly a collective effort. They had six players score in double figures, led by Domantas Sabonis, who finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds, and Myles Turner, who finished with 29 points and seven rebounds. The team shot 57.8 percent from the field, including 16-of-33 from three-point range.
This was the first time the Pacers had scored 160-plus points since November 1993, when they scored 166 against the Orlando Magic. It was also the first time a team scored 160 points in a regulation game since the Golden State Warriors scored 162 against the Otis Smith-led New York Knicks in January 2013. Smith, who was the head coach of the Wizards tonight, couldn’t believe his bad luck, having to sit through 48 minutes of his team’s porous defense.
The Pacers, who have been playing better of late, will look to build on this offensive explosion when they face the Boston Celtics on Friday, while the Wizards will hope to recover from this embarrassing defeat when they face the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
