CSK vs KKR, IPL 2025 Highlights: Sunil Narine’s all round efforts help Kolkata Knight Riders demolish Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were blown away by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) led by Sunil Narine’s brilliant all-round show on Monday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The inaugural season’s champions, who were without their regular skipper Ravindra Jadeja due to a knee injury, put up a lacklustre show with the bat as they managed only 137 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs.

The target proved to be enough as KKR achieved it in just 14.3 overs and lost only 2 wickets along the way. With this win, KKR climbed up the points table to the fourth spot, displacing CSK from it.

Put in to bat first, CSK had a horrible start as they lost both their openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway inside the first five overs. Gaikwad was the first to go as he was caught behind the stumps by Sheldon Jackson off Umesh Yadav in the third over.

Yadav struck again in the next over as he dismissed Conway for 5. The Kiwi batter was caught in the cover region by Venkatesh Iyer. CSK was reduced to 8 for 2 and things were only going to get worse from there.

Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali then stitched together a vital 48 run partnership to stabilise the CSK innings. However, the revival was cut short by Sunil Narine who had Uthappa (31) caught behind in the 11th over.

The spinner then dismissed the dangerous Andre Russell cheaply to put CSK in a commanding position. Narine trapped Russell leg before as the batter failed to connect with a sweep shot. He finished with the figures of 2-20 from his 4 overs, which included 2 crucial wickets in the powerplay.

Ambati Rayudu and Ravisrinath then came together and managed a 29 run partnership but the duo failed to capitalize on their starts. As CSK was reduced to 118 for 8 in the 19th over, it was clear that they were going to struggle to put up a competitive total on the board.

Eventually, CSK was wrapped up for 137 in 19.4 overs. For KKR, Umesh Yadav was the pick of the bowlers as he took 3 wickets conceding only 25 runs in his 4 overs.

Chasing 138, KKR lost opener Venkatesh Iyer in the second over bowled by Mukesh Choudhary. The right-arm pacer clean bowled Iyer for 1 as KKR were reduced to 10 for 1.

However, the other opener Sunil Narine took the game away from CSK with a brilliant half-century. The KKR opener smashed 54 runs off just 25 balls, with 9 fours and 2 sixes, as he raced his way to his fifth half-century in the IPL.

Shubman Gill then provided great support at the other end as the duo took KKR close to the target. Gill remained unbeaten at 22 runs off 15 balls as KKR chased the target in just 14.3 overs.

For CSK, Mukesh Choudhary was the most successful bowler as he took 1 wicket but conceded just 20 runs in his 4 overs. This result meant that CSK suffered their fourth loss in the season and they are now fifth on the points table.
